Thirupathur or thirupattur is the town and head quarters located in thirupathur district. It is southern part of the state. Thirupathur is an approximately 30kms to sivaganga district. Thirupathur is surrounded by sivagangai, devakottai and kannankudi. The town is called as "Sandalwood Town", because the sandalwood trees available in the hills. It is very close to yelagiri hills. Thirupathur is home to several temples, such as sivaganga palace temple(lord shiva), Muthumari amman temple and koodal azhagar perumal temple. It attracts devotees and touriest. Thirupathur is famous for handloom industries, mainly for manufacturing silk sarees. The handloom industries place the main role in the town's economy. The town is famous for its folk arts, such as "Karagattam".
