Theni is valley town,it is situated in the foothills of western ghats and is surrounded by rivers, hills and valleys. This district is border for madurai, virudhunagar and dindigul districts in tamilnadu and it is border for state of kerala to the west. Theni called "Second Manchester Of South Tamilnadu". Its indicates various cotton trade. The cultural richness and beauty of theni called " Earth's Hidden Paradise". The periyar and vaigai rivers are flows through the district. The districts gives cultivation of various crops. such as paddy, sugarcane, coconut, banana, spices. And the district knowns high quality fruits like mangoes, grapes. Some notable places to visit includes, Meghamalai, vaigai dam, suruli falls, kumbakkarai falls. Agriculture is the major backbone of economy in theni. Apart from that the district has some industries. such as agriculture related, textiles and granite mining.

Theni is called as "Cardamom City". for its large volume trade of cardamoms. It is bound on north by Dindigul district, east by Madurai district, south by Virudhunagar district and west by Kerala state. There are many textile industries that do spinning, weaving, and stitching. Cumbum Valley in the district is also a major centre for grape cultivation. The rivers suriliyar and vaigai barrages are used to irrigate the land. There are 11 arts and science colleges.
