Pudukkottai town located in pudukkottai district. The city of pudukkottai is the district head quarters. It surrouned by agricultural lands, hills and rivers. Pudukkottai district was carved out of thiruchirappalli and thanjavur districts in january 1974. Paddy, pulses and oil seeds are producing from pudukkottai. Handicrafts such as terracotta pottery, brassware and stone carving activities are made in this region. In pudukkottai some notable places to visit includes pudukkottai palace, government museum, thirumayam fort, sittannavasal cave. Pudukkottai is also known as "Archaeologist's paradise" . It has some historical structures and monuments.

Pudukkottai holds rich cultural heritage like fortresses, palaces, temples, cave paintings and many historical monuments. The region surrounded by trichy, ramanadhapuram, sivagangai and thanjavur districts.The districts has 3 major estate at machuvadi, mathur and vallanur.
