Temple:

• Irukkankudi Maari Amman Temple - An ancient temple dedicated to Maari Amman, the goddess for fertility and protection. Among the prominent temples in South Gate, it has elaborately carved and colored murals.

• Seetha Rama Lakshmana Anjaneya Temple - This is an important temple dedicated to the Hindu deities Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman. A pilgrimage site with its impressive architecture and serenity, this temple is well visited by devotees.

• South Gate Mosque - A noteworthy place of worship for Muslims. 

Bazar:

• South Gate Market - This market is one of the oldest and biggest bazaars in Madurai that boasts the sale of every imaginable thing, from clothes and jewelry to spices and handicrafts.

Shops & Hotels:

• Uthandan Pakoda Shop - Uthandan Pakoda Shop is one of the oldest and most reputed shops that sell the legendary pakoda, a famous Indian snack. Its fame transcends over 55 years of service and remains a favorite point even among tourists.

• Meat n Eat - A local favorite for good non-vegetarian food.

• Gowri Gangga - A good place for South Indian traditional meals.

• Jkans - Offers Chinese and North Indian dishes in good measure.

Schools:

• Nadar HSS, South Gate - A long-founded higher second school from grades 9 to 12. Nadar HSS is known for its academic concern, while it has served the community for many years. 

• Nadar Vid. M.S South Gate - The school offers grades 1 -8. It is one of the more established institutions of the area with an emphasis on primary and upper-primary education. 

Theatre:

• Central Cinema Theatre - One of the older theatres in Madurai screening Tamil films.

• Manicka Vinayagar Theatre - A local cinema hall with both regional and blockbuster films.

Other Landmarks:

• Periyar Bus Stand - It is the most significant bus terminal located in South Gate, though it continues to be an important transport hub for the entire city. Periyar is widely approachable from all portions of Madurai and well represented for passengers' convenience in terms of picking up their respective points to go other destinations. 

• The South Gate Police Station – Maintaining the law and order within its area of jurisdiction.
